John never gives up. When he was 5 years old he broke his leg. The day after he was released from the hospital with his full leg cast and crutches he disappeared in our back yard. All we could see were his crutches leaning against our apple tree. We went out and looked for him. We found him up in the apple tree with his brother Dan, age 3. ~Bob and Kathy Vleck
This is a picture of John that appeared in the Blaine Spring Lake Park Life newspaper on October 25, 1985. It has taken on new meaning now that John, who had the strength to do the iron cross on the rings and now has difficulty walking or putting on a jacket. This is the way we would like to remember him from a physical standpoint. He was the co-captain of the Blaine HS gymnastics team in their 1985-86 season…his senior year. ~Bob Vleck
